Many folks ask us the difference between a fullblood Belgian Blue and a
purebred Belgian Blue. A fullblood is 100% of the Belgian Blue breeding
that was developed in Belgium. A purebred is an animal that has been
bred up from another breed with a high percentage of Belgian Blue
breeding. The Belgian Blues recognize a purebred in females as an animal
that is at least 7/8 Belgian Blue and above in her genetic makeup. In
bulls it is recognized at 15/16 Belgian Blue breeding and above in his
genetic makeup. Here at MNP Farm we have worked on both purebred and
fullblood genetics. We have worked on a purebred program to increase the
hybrid vigor and to keep the characteristics of the Belgian Blue breed.
We also breed halfbloods and other percentages for show calves. The
breed has a lot to offer the cattle industry in crossbreeding programs
which is where the majority of the cattle breeding markets are directed.
Thank you for your interest in our program. Please contact us for any
